Novak Djokovic Returns To No.1 Spot After Winning 23rd Grand Slam Title

After successfully defending his title at the French Open, Novak Djokovic has reclaimed his spot atop the ATP Rankings at No. 1. He defeated Casper Ruud in straight sets on Sunday, according to information from ATPTour.com, winning his record-breaking 23rd Grand Slam trophy. He moved up to No. 1 in the rankings, passing Carlos Alcaraz, who had been in that spot up until the French Open. At Roland Garros, the 36-year-old player won the semifinal match against Alcaraz. In addition to him, Russian tennis star Karen Khachanov has climbed back into the top 10 in the rankings.

Djokovic, who has won the Grand Slam tournament 23 times, continued to expand his lead in the race for the big titles on Sunday when he secured his spot in the French Open 2023. With this victory, he became the first player to win all four major trophies (Wimbledon, US Open, French Open, and Australian Open) at least three times.

Djokovic has moved well ahead of his key opponents, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer (who is now retired), in the race for the big championships, which include Grand Slam championships, Olympic singles gold medals, the Nitto ATP Finals, and ATP Masters 1000 contests. Djokovic has pushed far ahead of his primary adversaries in this race.

The Serbian player holds the records for the most major championship victories (23, a record that he owns alone), ATP Finals titles (six, which he shares with Federer), and Masters 1000 victories (38, a record that he holds alone). He presently has 67 Big Title titles, which is more than both Nadal and Federer, who each have 54.

The 36-year-old player is also in a good position to become the first male player since Rod Laver in 1969 to finish off the Grand Slam by winning all four majors in the same calendar year. He is now in the middle of that process. Djokovic had already won the year’s first three major tournaments before his defeat in the final of the US Open in 2021.

Djokovic secured his historic triumph at the French Open 2023 by overcoming Ruud’s strong start in the final match, which took place at the Court Philippe-Chatrier. The player who was seeded third came back from being down 1-4 in the tie-break to win the opening set. On his way to a win that took three hours and 13 minutes to complete, he then delivered some of the finest hitting he had done in the previous two days throughout the second and third sets.
