F1: Brake cooling issues halt Rusell’s Canadian Grand Prix progress

Toto Wolff, the principal of the Mercedes team, has shed light on the events that led to George Russell’s withdrawal from the Canadian Grand Prix. In doing so, he has revealed the underlying cause that led to the terrible turn of events for the British driver.

Russell, despite making a hopeful comeback from an accident that occurred on lap 13, found himself in a position to gain points while the race was in progress. Nevertheless, near the end of the process, he was given the discouraging directive to retire his W14.

The incident happened after Russell was unable to maintain control of his vehicle after racing wide on Turn 8, which led to a collision with the wall of the track. The right rear and front wings of his car both sustained damage as a result of this incident.

In spite of the difficulty, Russell was able to recover and return to the pits so he could continue the race. It was a testament to his tenacity on the track that he managed to work his way up to seventh position with a series of deft manoeuvres. But in the end, he was pulled out of the race due to problems with the cooling of his brakes, which sealed his destiny and compelled him to give up the race early.
