Richa Chadha has given several extraordinary performances as an actor, but the character of Bholi Punjaban from the film Fukrey has remained in the minds and affections of audiences the longest. As people anticipate the upcoming release of the third installment of the franchise, Chadha tells us that the film holds a special place in her heart.
“Fukrey became a franchise on its own. We did not have to do something out of the way apart from creating a film that was fun and it’s characters resonated with people. The Fukrey universe is extremely popular today among the people and that’s why there’s a lot of expectation as well,” she tells us.
Chadha explains that working on Fukrey films is always a joy because it allows her to return to her origins. “I enjoy portraying Bholi Punjaban in the film because I can gladly rely on my North Indian upbringing, from which I am far removed now. I have lived in Bombay for a number of years. For this reason, I enjoyed filming this film in Delhi, recalling my college days when I used to chill out on campus. I really appreciate the atmosphere. “Just hanging out with a group of boys is a lot of fun for me,” Chadha says.
Chadha’s ability to bring joy to people’s faces is what gives the Fukrey films their special quality. “This is a lighthearted film. Families appreciate watching it with their children. And when you perform comedy, people view you quite differently. You make them giggle, thereby establishing rapport with your audience. “You know that comedy films have a large fan base, so it feels different to be adored by that group,” she concludes.
